STRUCTURAL STABILITY CERTIFICATION

STRUCTURAL STABILITY CERTIFICATION

Stability of the structure is essential for trouble free performance for the full design life of the structure and safe and uninterrupted operations or usage for which it has been built. Routine and detailed inspection based on the age and condition of the structure is essential to evaluate the status and define the interventions required for necessary maintenance and repairs at appropriate time for ensuring the performance for full design life.

WHAT IS STRUCTURAL STABILITY CERTIFICATION

A structural stability certification is necessary for all existing structures at a given time line of one year / 3 years / 5 years  based on the age and condition of the structure for ensuring the safe utility of the same for usage of commercial & residential, or operations of a Steel plant, pharmaceuticals companies, power plants, oil refineries etc. As there is no well-defined code of practice with given time lines for structural stability check, the general practice evolved is that any structure more than 10 years requires stability check with 3 to 5 years and structures more than 30 years would essentially need it 2 to 3 years. The industries departments most of the states in the country makes it mandatory for the user to submit the Stability Certificate for all industrial structures in 3 years whereas in one or two states it is 5 years.

How We Do

Our team would study the drawings of all structures to be inspected before going to site to understand the layouts, verify the age of structure, any previous inspection reports available   and whether it is affected by unfavorable conditions or environmental factors, whether any previous repairs of strengthening was done.

Then the detailed inspection of each structure/building is done along with distress mapping to arrive at the condition assessment which is arrived at based on cumulative structural rating systems.

Ratings are provided from 1 to 5 for structural elements of the structure based on their condition and level of distress and the cumulative rating is considered to define the total structure category. The elements considered for rating are Foundation, Columns, Beams & Slabs in structural elements

WHAT WE DELIVER

Based on the inspection data analysis the “structural stability certificate” is issued for a period of 6 months to 3 years based on category of the structure.

  1. For Good condition – 3 years
  2. For Nominal distress – 3 years
  3. For Severe distress – 1 year
  4. For Very severe distress – 6 months

For structures in category 3 & 4, detailed inspection and testing is taken up to define the causes of distress of the structure with necessary repairs/ strengthening and get it done to restore the structure for safe operations or usage level. Where ever necessary even the design check is done to arrive at the strengthening requirements
